It Takes a ‘Dummy’ to Teach CPR; Maryland Automobile Dealers Association & Plaza Ford of Bel Air Donate Resusci Anne Training Mannequins to Darlington VFC
Bel Air, MD, April 20, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Emergency services workers at the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company in Harford County will be able to expand their community CPR education programs with the donation this week of new adult and child-sized training mannequins by the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association (MADA) and Plaza Ford of Bel Air, Md.
Editors note: The donation and photo opportunity will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, April 25 at the Darlington VFC Station, 2600 Castleton Rd., Darlington, Md.
The Darlington Volunteer Fire Company teaches lifesaving cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills to emergency responders and offers training to interested community groups, such as Scouts, day care operators, and church groups. The additional mannequins will allow them to increase the size and frequency of the classes.
Linda Thomas, Darlington’s EMS Chief, said the Resusci Anne and Resusci Baby life-like mannequins provide real life simulation and performance measures so that students can quickly sharpen their skills in performing CPR, the Heimlich maneuver and other life saving techniques.
“You can watch the video and take the written test, but you have to have the hands on practice to really understand what you are doing,” said Ms. Thomas. “With the new mannequins, we will be able to offer more training to more people, and make our community a little bit safer.”
“The CPR program allows these outstanding volunteer organizations to train hundreds of people each year throughout Maryland. The program also makes it possible to further educate the community on the importance of proper CPR technique,” stated MADA president, Peter Kitzmiller.
“This is a great opportunity for us to be able to help the community,” said Tom Walls, president of Plaza Ford. “The hard work and the dedication by all the EMS and fire personnel in this community and the entire county are often overlooked. I know personally the efforts these people give on a daily basis, having been a firefighter for several years. Training with the Resusci Anne and Baby mannequins will enable the EMS and firefighters to perform to the highest standards. It will also give the EMS people a great opportunity to train citizens in the community to perform life saving measures until EMS can arrive on the scene.”
MADA offers the mannequins, valued at $1,500 each, through a partnership with the National Automobile Dealers Association Foundation. Since 1975, the foundation has distributed over 4,100 training units throughout the U.S., to provide training for more than 1.9 million people. Local organizations may apply for a Resusci-Anne at www.nada.org.
