Manuel T. Banzon, MD, Freehold Orthopedic Surgeon, Lectures at the New CentraState Ambulatory Campus on How Computers Are Assisting in Total Hip Replacement Surgeries

Banzon, MD, an orthopedic surgeon in Freehold, New Jersey gave a lecture on Thursday, April 10 titled, “Computer-Assisted Total Hip Replacement.” The audience at the Conference Center of the new CentraState Ambulatory Campus learned how computers are helping surgeons in minimally invasive total hip replacement. Dr. Banzon is one of the partners and orthopedic surgeons at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute in Freehold, New Jersey.

Computers assist surgeons by monitoring movement, alignment, and critical measurement during surgery, using infrared optics and tracking software. The surgeon is better able to visualize the surgical area, facilitating more accurate placement of instruments and implants. For the patient, this results not only in smaller incisions and consequently faster recovery time, but also a greater likelihood that the hip replacement will last longer and provide a wider range of motion. “It’s always a pleasure to pass on such positive information that will likely benefit the members of my audience tonight,” said Dr. Banzon. “The number of hip replacement surgeries is growing every year, so this technology benefits both patients and surgeons in innumerable ways.” Following his presentation, Dr. Banzon answered several questions from the audience regarding the new technology.
