Sharon Reuler Receives Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award from Texas Real Estate Bar for 2019
The Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas (REPTL) awarded its highest honor, the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award in Real Estate, to attorney Sharon Reuler.
Dallas, TX, July 12, 2019 --(PR.com)-- The Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas (REPTL) awarded its highest honor, the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award in Real Estate, to attorney Sharon Reuler during REPTL's annual meeting on July 11, 2019, at the Advanced Real Estate Law Course in San Antonio, Texas.
REPTL annually recognizes one lawyer who has made significant and sustained contributions of time and talent to the Texas real estate bar throughout the attorney's career. Sharon is the twentieth real estate attorney, and third woman, to be so honored. Houston attorney Marc Markel made the presentation with a glowing overview of Sharon's contributions to the real estate bar.
"I stand before you with three angels on my shoulders,” Sharon said in accepting the honor. “I must invoke the names of the CLE giants who mentored me, and without whose support I wouldn't be here: Jerry Charles Saegart, James Noble Johnson, and Roy D. Hailey. Each continues to inspire me." She also encouraged the large audience to consider contributing their talents to the State Bar's continuing legal education program.
Sharon is well known for decades of volunteerism in promoting the law of common interest developments, such as condominiums and subdivisions with homeowners associations. When Sharon started lawyering during a mid-life career change, HOA Law was not recognized as a substantive practice for real estate lawyers. Property Owners Association Law is now a legal specialty worthy of certification by the State of Texas, thanks in part to Sharon's work with the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as a REPTL appointee. Sharon helped draft the application, qualifications, and standards for certification in POA Law.
She’s had a lifelong interest in helping shape the law. Just three years after law school graduation, she championed the Texas Uniform Condominium Act, organizing a drafting committee of HOA lawyers to reinvigorate the decade-old proposed legislation and later serving as TUCA’s spokesperson and testifying at state legislative sessions.
In 2005, Sharon found a passion and talent for reporting HOA statute-making in Texas, sending out concise and witty reports to her email subscribers through the 2017 legislative session, which spanned the lead-up and aftermath of the historic “HOA Reform Session” of 2011. She also presented HOA legislative updates and webinars for TexasBarCLE.
Less well known is Sharon's decades of volunteer service to the continuing legal education of Texas attorneys, for which the CLE staff of the State Bar of Texas presented Sharon with a Standing Ovation Award in 2012. Among Texas lawyers, Sharon is best known for her 12-year CLE partnership with Roy Hailey. Until his passing in 2015, Roy and Sharon were a dynamic duo who educated Texas attorneys via live courses and studio-produced webcasts. Their Texas POA Primer won the Jerry Saegart Award for best paper at the 2010 Advanced Real Estate Law Course, at which over 40 articles were presented.
