NAFA's 2008 Expo Brings a Daughter Closer to Her Father's Legacy
A college student from Quebec travels to Salt Lake City to present an award named after her father who died when she was just eight years old.
Salt Lake City, UT, April 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Meyranie Goill was only eight years old when her father passed away in 1995. She grew up knowing little about what he did for a living or how important his work was to fleet management professionals. On Tuesday, May 6th, she will get a pretty good idea when she travels from one side of North America to the other to present the Larry Goill Award at NAFA's 2008 Institute & Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Larry Goill (Meyranie's father), served as NAFA Vice President for Canada and was Supervising Engineer, Fleet Services for Bell Canada. NAFA's Quality Fleet Management Idea Award was renamed in his honor thirteen years ago following his passing. The award recognizes fleet managers whose creative ideas improved productivity or produced substantial financial savings for their employers. This will be the first time that Meyranie has ever presented the award.
The Institute & Expo offers Meyranie a chance to learn more about her father and his work. "The only thing I knew was that he was a business man and often on business trips," she explained. "Until I found out about the award, I didn't know very much about what he did. And then I found out he was a Vice President and that his work was greatly accomplished."
Meyranie will travel over 2,200 miles from her home in Terrebonne, Canada to the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. It will be her first trip to the United States since she was eight. She currently attends Dawson College in Montreal and studies under the Community Recreation and Leadership Training program. She plans on being a teacher after graduation.
Fleet managers from all points in the United States and Canada submit proposals for the Larry Goill Awards each year. Sponsored by NAFA Fleet Management Association and Bell Canada, the Larry Goill Award is one of the most prestigious honors in the fleet industry. Meyranie Goill is thrilled to be part of this year's event.
"My dad's always been so close to me," said Goill. "It's an honor for me and I'm sure it's an honor for him to have his daughter present something under his name."
