Public Jobs: Private Data Presentation at Secure 360°™ Conference
University of Minnesota and Seward Inc. present about this innovative data security training
Minneapolis, MN, April 28, 2008 --(PR.com)-- On May 13, 2008, Greg Sales (President and CEO, Seward Inc.) and Ross Janssen (Director, University of Minnesota Office of Privacy and Security) will present about the Public Jobs: Private Data security training at the 2008 Secure360°™ conference (www.secure360.org), an annual conference about developing trends in risk management, physical security, governance, audit, information security, contingency planning, and human capital.
Sales and Janssen will use the Public Jobs: Private Data security training the University of Minnesota implemented as a case study for their presentation. This session will provide insight and practical advice on developing, implementing, and delivering a training and awareness program in a large, complex organization. Participants also will gain practical insights and suggestions for developing a training program that leverages collaboration and incorporates the organization's data privacy and security policies and procedures, best practices for data security, and practical, interactive scenarios to test learner knowledge.
Sales and Janssen also have co-written a research bulletin—Regulatory Compliance Training: Public Jobs, Private Data (http://connect.educause.edu/library/ERB0808)—for the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research. The publication describes training implemented by the University of Minnesota to ensure that all employees, from student workers and custodial staff through senior research faculty and administrators, received training about keeping private data secure tailored to their roles and responsibilities. The training program, entitled Public Jobs: Private Data, resulted in improvements in incident reporting and response procedures, awareness of institutional private data and expectations for securing them, and many aspects of data security. Before-and-after training assessments of university employees show an increase of 10 to 20 percentage points in trainee confidence in dealing with data security issues.
