Amber Alert Issued for Anthony Turner, Missing Johnson County, Texas Boy
Springfield, IL, March 23, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Johnson County authorities issued an Amber Alert late Wednesday for a 5-year-old boy last seen riding his bicycle, a spokeswoman said.
Anthony Turner disappeared between 4:30 and 5 p.m. near East Renfro Street and Farm Road 917, said Cpl. Pam Jetsel of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department.
"I believe a relative was watching him and had stepped over to a neighbor's," Jetsel said. "They looked back and he wasn't there." Authorities from several agencies and helicopters with the Texas Department of Public Safety and CareFlite searched for the boy, she said. Neighbors scoured the area in unincorporated Johnson County between Burleson and Alvarado. Anthony's bicycle has not been recovered, Jetsel said.
Adding to authorities' concerns, she said, was a report that someone in a dirty gold or beige 1984 or 1985 Ford Taurus was attempting to pick up children in nearby Burleson on Wednesday. "We're treating it as a potential kidnapping," she said. "We're looking at all the possibilities."
Anthony was riding a red and blue bicycle and was wearing a red and white jersey with the number "90" printed in black letters, according to a news release. He is about 3 feet tall, weighs 45 pounds, and has brown eyes and brown hair.
