With his second novel, Magic and Grace, Chad Hautmann continues to color in the middle between the light and dark sides of life. As in the author’s debut work, the touching Billie’s Ghost (Penguin, 2004), Hautmann explores loss, love, and redemption while managing to avoid the trappings of melodrama with his appropriate and timely sense of humor.
Chad Hautmann was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and received an M. A. in creative writing from Florida State University. He is a former college English teacher and freelance writer whose work has appeared in a number of commercial and literary magazines. Magic and Grace is his second novel. His first novel, Billie’s Ghost, was published by Penguin in 2004. Chad lives in Naples, Florida, with his wife and two children.
