Capsim Announces Winners of Its Spring Global Business Simulation Competitions

Record-breaking number of participants compete online worldwide.

Northfield, IL, April 30, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Capsim Management Simulations, Inc.®, the world’s largest provider of business simulations to college graduate and undergraduate students, announced today the winners of its Spring 2008 Capstone® and Foundation® International Challenge – two global online business simulation competitions undertaken by more than 800 graduate and undergraduate student teams worldwide.

Kallol Chaudhuri, under the tutelage of Professor Diana Day at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, won Capsim’s Spring 2008 Capstone Challenge. Chaudhuri, expected to graduate in May with a degree in business essentials, and plans to pursue a career in management consulting.

“I took some flack in the first two rounds because my strategy was a bit long-term," said Chaudhuri. “I am glad that it started paying off when I expected it to.

“All [of] the finalists were very competitive and any one of the six teams could have won,” he added. “The quality and complexity of the software is very real and [Capstone] backs that up with excellent technical support.”

After excelling in Professor Richard Opalinski’s undergraduate classroom simulation competition, DePaul University’s Julian Bauer decided to participate in Capsim’s Spring 2008 Foundation Challenge, and took the competition’s highest honors.

“I wanted to see how I would rank among students from other schools in the USA and throughout the globe,” said Bauer, who looks ahead to graduation in June with a degree in business administration, and aspires to work in the food service industry for a large frozen food manufacturing corporation or a major restaurant chain.

Bauer said, “I think a hands-on approach to learning is very important because it gives students the opportunity to see how everything they have learned really works when running a business.”

“The Capstone and Foundation Challenge provides an opportunity for students of all levels - from first-year undergraduates to MBA students - to find out if they have what it takes to run a multimillion-dollar company,” said Dan Smith, president of Capsim and adjunct professor at DePaul University in Chicago. "Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to the more than one thousand other students who participated. We are confident that every participant now has a better understanding of the effect each decision has on the overall business.”

This was the 15th Semi-Annual Capstone and Foundation International Challenge hosted by Capsim. The Challenge ranks participants using the Balanced Scorecard, a strategic assessment tool that accurately measures a business unit's progress. Prior to the competitions, all participants learned finance, research and development, marketing and production through the use of the Capstone Business Simulation and the Foundation Business Simulation in their college courses. This year, the competitions included teams from dozens of countries, including Australia, Canada, Ecuador, France, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, Korea, Mexico, Nicaragua, Poland, Spain, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and the United States.
