inTalent Consulting Hosts Atlanta Public School Laptop Essay Contest: Winner Receives a Free Laptop

Atlanta, GA, April 30, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Tenth grader Vershun Weaver is the winner of the Atlanta Public School Laptop Essay Contest. Students were asked to write an essay describing why they should be awarded a free laptop. The contest is sponsored by inTalent Consulting, which specializes in staffing process improvement and talent management. inTalent Consulting plans to fund the donation of one laptop to a deserving student each quarter. The first laptop was donated through the One Laptop Per Child program, which provides a free laptop to a student when a laptop is purchased.

inTalent Consulting presented Weaver with a free laptop during a 10th grade assembly. Principal Scott Painter and high school computer science teacher Buffy Johnson were in attendance. After the assembly, inTalent Consulting hosted a pizza party for all of the students who submitted essays.

“Vershun didn’t know he was the winner until we announced it at the assembly,” said Cindy Lubitz, managing partner for inTalent Consulting. “His essay really stood out, and we hope that this laptop will help him excel even more.”

As a student of the South Atlanta High School of Engineering and Computer Sciences, Weaver is studying computer animation and architecture. The laptop he received will provide him the opportunity to sharpen his coding skills.

“Vershun is an outstanding student who is very active in student government, band and sports,” said Linda Brenner, managing partner of inTalent Consulting. “His essay outlined numerous goals that the laptop will help him achieve, such as graduating from high school, attending college and starting his career. He also mentioned that he would share the laptop with his little sister to help her with her school work.”

The One Laptop Per Child program seeks to ensure that all school-aged children in developing countries, as well as local schools in the United States have access to learning tools that will help them succeed.
