Music, Dance, & Tastes of India in Arcosanti, Arizona
On May 10th, 2008, Arcosanti will feature "Sounds & Tastes of India," a celebration of Indian culture through live music, dance, and food.
Arcosanti, AZ, May 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- On May 10th, 2008, the Cosanti Foundation will feature “Sounds & Tastes of India,” a celebration of India through live music, dance, and food. The performance begins with music by Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya and Abhishek Basu, followed by Prachi Dixit with traditional Kathak dance, then a finale with all performers together.
The featured musician is Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, a master of the santoor, a 100-stringed instrument similar to the hammered dulcimer. Bhattacharya comes from a musical family and studied with internationally known musician Ravi Shankar. He has performed around the globe, including previous appearances at Arcosanti and Cosanti in Arizona. Bhattacharya will be accompanied by tabla player Abhishek Basu. The tabla is a set of traditional hand drums played with fingers and palms. Basu gave his first performance at age 8 and now tours internationally. Guru Prachi Dixit will perform in the traditional Jaipur Gharana style of Kathak dance. Dixit began her dance training at age 4 and founded the Nupur Dance Academy in Los Angeles.
The Arcosanti Cafe presents an Indian dinner with Masala Curry Chicken, Yellow Basmati Rice, Dal, Traditionally Spiced Vegetables, Naan, Curried Vegetables, mango, nut, and yogurt chutnies, all followed by dessert. In addition to dinner and the performance, two workshops will be offered for guests interested in learning about classical Indian dance and music. Guru Prachi Dixit will hold a dance workshop and Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya will hold a music workshop for which participants may bring their own instruments. Suggested donation for each Workshop is $10.

Arcosanti, an urban laboratory under construction in the high desert of central Arizona, seeks to reduce humankind’s ecological impact on the earth. Visitor tours are available every day (except major holidays) on the hour from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Visitor’s Center is open from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
