Casa New Yorker, Santo Domingo’s Newest Bed and Breakfast is Open for Business
Located in the Colonial Zone of the oldest city in the Western Hemisphere, this 9-room art deco hotel is the epitome of casual elegance
New York, NY, March 25, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Casa New Yorker Hotel, a 9-room art deco bed and breakfast, opened its doors to guests in early January 2006. Located in the capital city of Santo Domingo, this hotel is nesseled in the Colonial Zone, first discovered in the early 1600s.
Casa New Yorker Hotel has 9 neatly appointed rooms. Each room is quaintly named after neighborhoods in New York City. The room names range from Gamercy Park and Chelsea to the Upper East and Upper West Sides. Price points for the rooms range from $60.00 to $40.00 US.
The hotel amenities are substantial and are meant to serve the needs of their customers. All rooms are outfitted with mini refrigerators, cable TV, and air conditioning; wireless Internet access is available and a computer is available in the common area called Washington Heights. A DVD player and VCR are available to guests, with a full library of movies. A continental breakfast is served in the courtyard every morning from 8 AM to 11AM, that area has been dubbed Central Park. Cocktails are available on the rooftop garden, where the Jacuzzi is located, from 5PM to 8PM daily. Spa services are also available upon request ;/
The proprietors of Casa New Yorker are David “Scotch” Wilks and Byron James. They are former New Yorkers who were tired of the rat race and wanted a change of pace. Wilks who was employed at American Express, says, “Corporate life, was stressful and incomplete. I wanted a life filled with adventure and challenge, I now have that—in the Caribbean no less.” James, who has a public relations and marketing background saw a wonderful opportunity. “Promoting a small business is hard work, but doing it in paradise makes it a lot easier. New York is a great town, but Santo Domingo has a throbbing nightlife, wonderful restaurants, and a cultural scene that is second to none.”
The Colonial Zone is the perfect starting point for visitors to discover Santo Domingo. Between Independence Park and the Ozama River, you will find the first city built in the New World by European settlers, including Columbus's brother, Bartholomeo, and his son, Diego Columbus. Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the New World, where the settlement of all the Americas began. You can see the first cathedral and the first hospital. You can wander down cobble stone streets among the Spanish colonial architecture and imagine how things were back in the 1600s.
The grand opening of Casa New Yorker was February 17-20, President’s Day Weekend. For more information visit, www.casanewyorker.com.
