Teen Ambassador Program - Applications Open
The Yards Teen Ambassador program is a summer 2021 initiative from The Yards Collective, offering teens in and around Rochester the opportunity to work directly with visual artists and immerse themselves in our local community of professionals. Applications are now open.
Rochester, NY, April 30, 2021 --(PR.com)-- The Yards Teen Ambassador program is a summer 2021 initiative from The Yards Collective, offering teens in and around Rochester the opportunity to work directly with visual artists and immerse themselves in our local community of professionals. Teens who participate in the program engage in guided tours with art experts, learn best practices from working local artists, and develop their own artistic skills under the guidance of individual mentors.
Teen ambassadors in the program follow an 8-session curriculum written in collaboration with an experienced New York State Art teacher. Lessons are aligned with the current New York State Learning Standards for the Arts. Ambassadors will spend their summer experiencing artist studios, galleries, workshops, and the art within their community, while working toward the summer’s culminating event: the opportunity to hang, promote, and present their work as a group at The Yards.
-This is a bi-weekly program meeting from June 1st - August 31st, 2021
-Most meetings occur from 6:00-7:30 pm at The Yards unless otherwise indicated on the Program Calendar
-This program is available to anyone between the ages 14-18
-There are four scholarship opportunities available for residents of Marketview Heights funded by RocGrowth
-Applications due by May 10th, 2021
“In the last year, we have seen the importance of art and activism,” says Kristina Kaiser, director of The Yards. “This program will help us to connect young artists with professionals and continue to foster community connections which are the foundations of our space.” The Yards will be turning 10 this October and is excited to bring fresh programming like this to the Rochester Community.
About The Yards Collective: Created in 2011 as a collaborative art space founded by strong, female-identifying makers looking to offer a supportive, artistic, and inclusive space, The Yards Collective now operates under a dedicated director with the support of passionate volunteers whose vision is to support a community of makers that share a high quality of craft.
