DTS to Offer KVH’s Next Generation Maritime Broadband Service and New Tracphone V7
Lafayette, LA, May 03, 2008 --(PR.com)-- KVH’S Next Generation Maritime Broadband Service and New Tracphone V7 Now Available at Data Technology Solutions.
DTS now offers clients the smallest VSAT antenna, manufactured by KVH Industries, providing fast, “always on” broadband data connections.
The new mini-VSAT Broadband service uses sophisticated spread spectrum technology to provide vessels with data reception rates as fast as 2 Mbps and data transmission rates as fast as 512 Kbps via a 24" KVH-developed marine terminal.
The result of a collaboration between the leaders in the marine communications industry, the KVH TracPhone V7 with mini-VSAT Broadband service is a powerful and affordable new communications solution for mariners. The first fully integrated maritime VSAT system works seamlessly by combining innovative and revolutionary technology, including rugged, fully stabilized antenna technology from KVH Industries, powerful KU-band satellite networks, and ViaSat’s ArcLight™ spread spectrum mobile broadband technology. This includes a new maritime version of its ArcLight spread spectrum modem, which is currently used on business jets and by the military.
The hardware for the TracPhone V7 with mini-VSAT broadband features a small robust antenna that, in its dome, is 85% smaller in volume and weights 75% less than the systems used for 1-meter VSAT. With hardware this compact, the TracPhone V7 system may be installed quickly and easily in as little as one day, usually without modifying the vessel and often without using a crane.
This breakthrough in technology offers broadband services to commercial, government, and leisure vessels. Mariners will now be able to rely on the best regional communications product available in the maritime industry for ship operations, business connections, and crew morale.
The TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT Broadband service covers North and Central America, North Atlantic, and Europe. With increasing success, KVH and its partners are now moving forward with the expansion of service coverage to support virtually all of the major shipping lands and other regions worldwide.
Key features of the TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT Broadband service include:
• True broadband connections at sea with data rates as fast as 512 Kbps (maximum upload) and 2 Mbps (maximum download)
• Affordable, flexible airtime subscription plans, including always-on, fixed-price monthly options
and per-megabyte plans with pricing up to 90% less per megabyte than existing maritime data
services
• Commercial-grade, 24" antenna that is 85% smaller by volume and 75% lighter than those used
in existing 1-meter VSAT systems, making it practical for use aboard smaller vessels
• Voice over IP telephone service with multiple, simultaneous lines
• GPS-based, automatic system configuration and antenna skew adjustment to support seamless roaming between regions and among satellites
• Integrated hardware, service, activation, and support for simple installation and operation
