As New York City's most celebratory restaurant, Tavern on the Green will salute Mother’s Day in typically festive and inclusive style on Sunday, May 11. Executive Chef Brian Young’s three-course menu will appeal to all the food(ie) groups - carnivores, fish aficionados, vegetarians and even locavores, while a variety of entertainments will enchant adults and children alike. And for this Mother’s Day, the landmark restaurant is watching celebrants wallets by offering an incentive to dine after 4 p.m. with a price break. Guran teed Crystal Room seating will become $79, as opposed to $98 earlier, while seating in any of Tavern’s other five opulent dining rooms will drop to $64 from $79 (children under 12 are half price.)
Regardless of dining time, the guest of honor will be presented with a cunning little potted plant as a living, environmentally sensitive keepsake of the occasion.
Highlights of Chef Young’s Mother’s Day menu include: diver scallop salad, hearts of palm, avocado, rye croutons truffle vinaigrette and ricotta ravioli, tomato, roast garlic and basil sauce among the five appetizer choices. Standouts among the seven entrees are: butter poached lobster, cauliflower puree, caviar chervil sauce and asparagus; rack of lamb, braided lamb shepherd’s pie, organic local carrots, mint chutney; and osso buco of monkfish, saffron risotto, fennel and leek ragout. Executive Pastry Chef Jasmine Bojic’s dessert duo of lemon orange tart and chocolate hazelnut Napoleon with raspberry sauce will lend the sweet notes finale to the Mother’s Day culinary symphony.
Tavern on the Green will start its annual Mother’s Day salute at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, with Crystal Room seating at $98 per person, all other rooms $79. Starting at 4 p.m., the prices drop to $79 and $64, respectively. Children under 12 will be half price all day and evening.
