GBBR Charitable Foundation Accepting Summer 2008 Grant Applications -- Baltimore Area Housing, Education and Community Development Groups Encouraged to Apply

Baltimore, MD, May 12, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Greater Baltimore Board of REALTORS® (GBBR) Charitable Foundation is announcing the availability of grant money for organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in Baltimore-area neighborhoods. Groups providing assistance with homeownership, fair housing practices, community development and education are especially encouraged to apply.

The deadline for applications for Summer 2008 awards is June 1, 2008. Information on how to apply for a GBBR Charitable Foundation grant is available on the GBBR Web site at http://www.realtorsbaltimore.com/funding_request.php.

Since 1998, the GBBR Charitable Foundation has provided financial support, in-kind donations of services, expertise and time to organizations and projects that are working to improve Baltimore-area neighborhoods. In recognition of its efforts, the GBBR Charitable Foundation has been honored with the Mayor's Business Recognition Award and a Baltimore County Good Neighbor Week Volunteer Service Award for its civic leadership and outstanding community service.

Past recipients of GBBR Charitable Foundation grants and volunteer support include:

• Adopt-A-Classroom – The Foundation, through the GBBR Community Service Committee, has raised funds to provide supplies for more than 108 classrooms in the Baltimore area. Each adopted classroom receives a $500 stipend for teachers to purchase supplies and materials that would otherwise be unavailable.

• Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity – For the past nine years, GBBR and the GBBR Charitable Foundation have made a major commitment of thousands of hours of volunteer time and financial resources to support the rehabilitation of homes throughout Baltimore City.

• Rebuilding Together Baltimore – Since 2002, the Foundation has provided financial and in-kind support along with GBBR members’ volunteer time to the annual Rebuilding Day. For Rebuilding Day 2008, a group of Foundation volunteers helped with community clean-up projects in Turner Station.

• Maryland Mentoring Partnership – For five straight years, the Foundation has made a financial contribution to MMP. In addition, GBBR members serve as mentors at Medfield Heights Elementary School in Baltimore City. Mentors meet with their students every other week over the course of the school year, provide assistance and advice, and often accompany them on field trips.

• Our Playground at Stadium Place – The GBBR Charitable Foundation pledged major financial support, secured donations of materials and supplies, and contributed more than 3,500 hours of service to help with the planning, construction, and maintenance of the one acre playground located on the site of the former Memorial Stadium. The playgound provides a safe place to play for more than 3,000 children in the Waverly, Better Waverly, Ednor-Gardens-Lakeside, and Coldstream/Homestead/Montebello neighborhoods.
