Today’s Youth Key to Addressing Global Cybersecurity Threats Tomorrow

New York, NY, September 11, 2021 --(PR.com)-- The Center for Women and Minorites at the Cyber Institute’s Executive Director, Taylor Rodriguez Vance was invited by the United Nations Association of the United States of America and Necessities for Children to speak during their Cyber Tech for Teens: CyberSafety & CyberSecurity event. The event’s theme of “The Importance of Cybersecurity and Career Opportunities in Cybersecurity Technology” targets youth 13 to 17 years old to inspire them towards cybersecurity careers.

Taylor shared her passion to inspire youth to explore STEM and cybersecurity. She said, “the cybersecurity industry continues to grow at an incredibly fast rate. While the number of jobs in cybersecurity is ever growing, the same cannot be said about the workforce needed to fill those jobs. There is a continued predicted global shortage of cyber security professionals; over 3 million by 2023. With a deficit that large, I hope to inspire youth towards STEM and cybersecurity careers.” She engaged with teens who otherwise might not have considered cybersecurity education or careers by demonstrating that cyber already touches many of there interests. From computing gaming, cybercrime, cyber defense, cyber law, cyber psychology, and even cyber medicine, she highlighted that youth could explore their interests volunteering for cyber-based organizations, participating in cyber competitions, and ultimately exploring the future of cyber careers through cyberseek.org which is a National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) program funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the U.S. Department of Commerce.
