Nonprofit Executive Featured in News: Cybersecurity Experts in City Set to Surge
Colorado Springs, CO, March 24, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The Executive Director of the Center for Cyber Risk Research and Policy at the Cyber Institute, Andrew Vance, was featured in a Colorado Springs Business Journal (https://www.csbj.com/ premier/businessnews/experts-cybersecurity-in-city-set-to-surge/article_69081209-9ab2-538e-87ef-2e8782a65a54.html).
Vance is the co-founder of a local nonprofit with an international reach. Colorado Springs ranks 16th nationally in the new Best Cities for Cybersecurity Professionals report, and experts say it is uniquely placed for a surge in growth and recognition as a cybersecurity hub. Much of Colorado Springs’ outsized cybersecurity success stems from synergy and collaboration at a level not seen in other cities, leaders said. Vance is quoted as saying “real, visible partnerships” across sectors are key to the city continuing to strengthen its position as a cybersecurity hub.
He felt confident locating and developing the Cyber Institute in Colorado Springs because of the city’s public-private cybersecurity partnerships and the level of involvement of UCCS, the Air Force Academy, Catalyst Campus, the private sector, and the legislature in supporting those relationships. “That was enough for me to say not only is this great for Department of Defense professionals, but also the workforce coming out of the academic institutions, they can see this is a good place to live and work,” Vance said. Vance described the Springs cybersecurity community as “very passionate” about giving small businesses big opportunities, understanding their agility and usefulness, and helping them grow. “From a small business perspective, we’re recognized by contracting companies and the Department of Defense as really innovative partners,” he said.
