Pop artist Cassandra Sterling, recently noted by C|Net as the "world’s #1 most downloaded artist in the Urban category," is currently featured on Kaniget Internet Radio with songs from her Album The 2004 Singles and several unreleased songs.
Hollywood, CA, March 31, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Kaniget Internet Radio (http://www.kaniget.com/kanigetradio.html) is currently featuring Singer/Songwriter Cassandra Sterling.
Of all the musical genres for an indie artist to go into, commercial Pop is probably the last one anyone would have on their list. And yet, that’s exactly what singer/songwriter Cassandra Sterling did. And she did it well. Within weeks of uploading “Summertime” to MP3.com, it was riding on the #5 position in their charts. “Don’t Get Me Wrong” soon followed at #14, and she quickly found herself having multiple songs in the top 20. Even on the mainstream Hip Hop charts, competing against heavy hitters like Eminem and Missy Elliot, she managed to slide in at #110 with “He’s Alone”. The verdict seems to be in – fans love what they’re hearing, and they’re ready for something fresh. The amazing trend seems to be continuing - C|Net recently named her the world’s #1 most downloaded artist in the Urban category, according to their charts at Download.com.
“Life’s too short for compromises" is one of the most often used expressions by Cassandra. Therefore one shouldn’t be at all surprised that she likes to combine music styles without any rules. Besides tight Hip Hop/R’n’B grooves, she also loves rough guitars, and a lot of electronic sounds. Her songs are about daily struggles, celebrations of life, deep anger, and even deeper romances. Moods and emotions are very important, and they create the influences for her songs.
Fresh on the success of her U.S. debut EP, “The 2004 Singles”, Cassandra is already hard at work on a full-length album, one which promises to go even deeper into the psyche of this unique artist with songs that range from an extremely powerful, emotionally-charged ballad to a popular 80’s rock cover that everyone’s sure to remember. “You’ll have to wait for the album,” she smiles, “I’m not telling.”
Meanwhile “Dragonfly”, co-written and produced by David Brownstein, is already making an impact on Pop and Top 40 radio stations across the country. “Dragonflies represent those little pieces of wonder that sometimes sneak into our daily lives,” she explains, “when we allow them to. To me, the song is about taking a break from the hectic, sometimes dark world around us to focus on the things which truly matter to us.” Also on “The 2004 Singles” are the songs “What U Want” and “How Many Timez?”, co-produced with Tom Curtis (St. Lunatics).
Cassandra studied singing at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, and went on to become the personal student of an RCA recording artist who would become one of the biggest inspirations for Cassandra to pursue her dreams without ever stopping to doubt or look back. She went on to study the guitar, acting, as well as ballet, jazz, hip hop and modern at the world-renowned Iwanson School for Dance. In addition, she’s had several of her poems published in various anthologies both in the U.S. and the UK.
Cassandra kicked off her debut international tour in Germany, opening for Oli P. in May of 2002. She has also shared the stage and appeared on television with acts diverse as Prodigy, Right Said Fred and Dario G. Since coming to LA, she’s appeared in music videos for artists like Billy Idol, Yoko Ono, and Mary J. Blige. She is currently in talks with the former promoters of INXS about a winter tour in Australia. In the meantime, Cassandra performs regularly throughout Los Angeles at the Century Club, The Joint, and at popular venues along the famed Sunset Strip.
She currently lives in Venice, California, where she visits the mural of Jim Morrison on her daily walks for inspiration.
The dark Rock band "Kaniget" has opened their Official Website to other artists in a show of support for rising stars. Their launch of Kaniget Internet Radio late last year has been met with great success and many artists being aired, such as Shannon Hurley, LeAnna Mosley, Dead Language, Mutant Press, Andrew Handrick, and Charlie Drown.
