Springfield, VA, May 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Donation Marks Sixth Consecutive Year of Giving.
From California to Florida, Big Tattoo Wines is making a difference in the communities where their wines are sold. During the second week of May, Big Tattoo provided donations to 28 charities across the United States.
Donations were determined based on money raised from product sales in 2007. This is the sixth annual donation for Big Tattoo Wines – a charity project designed to give back. For every bottle of Big Tattoo Wine sold throughout the year, fifty cents is donated to selected charities nationwide. Since the project’s inception in 2002, sales of Big Tattoo and their reserve label, 2 Brothers, have raised more than $1 million in donation funds.
“For us, the most exciting part of the year comes in May when we have the ability to give money to so many deserving organizations across the U.S.,” Alex Bartholomaus, president and CEO of Billington Wines, said. “It’s a privilege to be able to support charitable groups that truly make a difference in the lives of others.”
Brothers Erik and Alex Bartholomaus created Big Tattoo Wines in honor of their mother, Liliana S. Bartholomaus, who lost her battle to cancer. Their goal was to give back to the community that helped their family during their mom’s illness. The pair combined their individual talents – Erik, a tattoo artist, and Alex, the president and CEO of Billington wines – to create their first wine, Big Tattoo Red. The wine was sourced from Liliana’s native Chile and funds from sales of the original bottling were donated to Capital Hospice in Arlington, Virginia.
The success of Big Tattoo Red prompted the addition of Big Tattoo White. A reserve label was also added in 2007 under the brand name 2 Brothers. As the project expanded, so too did the donations. Today, the brothers give their network of nationwide distributors the ability to select a charity in their local area that will receive funds from the sales of Big Tattoo Wines within that market. Making donations on a local level allows many more people to get involved with the Big Tattoo mission.
Donations are tallied and distributed annually each spring as a result of sales from the previous year. For additional information about charities that benefit or the overall Big Tattoo project, please visit www.bigtattoowines.com.
Big Tattoo Wines, a partnership between brothers Erik and Alex Bartholomaus, began in 2002 as a way to raise funds for charity in memory of their mother, Liliana S. Bartholomaus. Fifty cents from every bottle of Big Tattoo sold is donated in their mother's name to charity, with a portion benefiting the community where the wine is sold. Due to the success of the original Big Tattoo Red, the Big Tattoo project has expanded to include six different wines available in restaurants and retailers nationwide. By 2007, over 70 charities in approximately 33 states have benefited from the more than $1 million raised. For more information, visit www.bigtattoowines.com.
