Denver, CO, May 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Colorado Governor Bill Ritter will attend BIO 2008 in San Diego, California, June 18, 2008. The announcement is made by Chris Shapard, Deputy Director of the Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA ), who says Governor Ritter will be marketing Colorado’s bioscience sector to more than 20,000 bioscience company executives, researchers, economic development agencies and service providers attending the four-day event.

"I am very excited to showcase Colorado's commitment to the bio- and life-sciences during the upcoming BIO 2008 event in San Diego," Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter said. "Colorado’s bioscience community is making incredible advances and we have a tremendous success story to tell. We recently established a Colorado Bioscience Grant Program to promote the industry and facilitate tech transfer. Colorado’s first Nobel Laureate, Tom Cech, just announced his return to the state. Our Anschutz Medical Campus at Fitzsimons and the research and development work being done in Boulder and Fort Collins are making Colorado a regional bioscience hub. My administration has made the biosciences one of the focal points of our overall economic-development strategy, and by elevating the stature of this crucial Industry of the Future, we are competing on a national and international level.”

Governor Ritter will speak to the press at 11 a.m. on June 18 in Conference Room 7A at the San Diego Convention Center. In addition, the Governor’s schedule on June 18 will include an industry breakfast and one-on-one meetings with bioscience firms, venture capital firms and others.

A Colorado Pavilion (Booth #3049), on the trade show floor, will feature Colorado’s research institutions and highlight the state’s support for bioscience companies and its business-friendly climate. Participants in the Colorado Pavilion include the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the Colorado BioScience Association, University of Colorado, Colorado State University, National Jewish Medical and Research Center, Colorado Science + Technology Park at Fitzsimons, Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation, Jefferson Economic Council, Arvada Economic Development Association, Northern Colorado Economic Development and the Aurora Economic Development Corporation.

“BIO 2008 is a great opportunity for Colorado bioscience companies to meet and mingle with the who’s who of worldwide bioscience leaders,” according to Denise Brown, Executive Director of CBSA. “This conference also gives us the best opportunity to tout our fast growing bioscience industry and in fact, we will be rolling out the newest edition of the Bioscience Colorado magazine at the event.”
