Toledo, OH, May 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Technology and security at Heartland Information Services (www.heartlandis.com) just got better. The medical transcription firm located in Toledo, Ohio has successfully begun to integrate to a single technology platform – GEMSTAR – for all areas of its business, delivering security, quality and speed at even higher levels.
After merging with Spryance in 2006, Heartland operated under two distinct platforms – GEMSTAR and SpryForce – both of which offered a different range of capabilities and processes. Utilizing the GEMSTAR platform only, each of Heartland’s customers has access to all available features and monitoring functionalities, including GEMSTAR’s workflow management software Tracker PlusTM, which allows Heartland’s customers to track transcription jobs in real time and reconcile invoices right on their computer screen. These benefits allow for greater workflow capabilities, standardization of data management and tracking and better controls for quality management.
“Integrating GEMSTAR enables us to deliver on our promises to any customer, at any location, at any time. It allows us to operate above and beyond current HIPAA standards and ensures that every employee, vendor and contractor follows Heartland’s strict code of business ethics and operations,” says Dennis Paulik, EVP of Business Strategies.
Integrating to one platform will enhance the consistency that drives quality and results in the redundancy of data processing. All Heartland customers will now have the benefit of a centrally networked GEMSTAR, allowing for both the transcribing and editing of data anywhere in the world and the management of Heartland’s transcriptionist work pools with greater specialist-focused capabilities. The platform integration will also improve the security of Protected Health Information (PHI) business-wide by:
• Having an ability to perform in-depth risk analysis.
• Implementing security reminders.
• Adopting and implementing procedures for timely reporting of security incidents.
• Establishing and implementing procedures to create and maintain data backups.
• Establishing procedures to restore lost data and continue business processes while operating in emergency mode.
• Implementing ability to encrypt and decrypt e-PHI and corroborate that information has not been altered or destroyed.
In addition to implementing a more standardized business-wide platform, Heartland is also focused on expanding other areas of its transcription technology. By adding remote transcription capabilities to GEMSTAR, Heartland will be able to tap into a larger, more experienced workforce, with the timing advantages of flexible shifts. The company also recently announced a partnership with M*Modal, integrating its AnyModal CDS technology into GEMSTAR. This technology combines speech recognition and natural language understanding capabilities to comprehend medical dictation and transforms it into electronic files, allowing Heartland to increase its capacity and improve employee productivity and efficiency.
Heartland Information Services specializes in high-quality, full-service medical transcription providing financial and service advantages that helps its clients reach or exceed goals. Heartland provides unparalleled efficiency, reliability and management capabilities while interfacing with virtually any health information system and software. Heartland’s corporate headquarters is located in Toledo, Ohio, with work centers in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Delhi, India. For more information visit www.heartlandis.com.
