Nash Community College Purchases Segway PT for Occupational Training Program
Triangle Segway, in Raleigh, North Carolina, announces its sale of a Segway PT to Nash Community College in Rocky Mount. The college will use its new i2 Police unit to instruct law enforcement officers on how to use the Segway effectively for patrol duties and at special events.
Raleigh, NC, May 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, acquired a Segway i2 Police unit this month to help further the college's mission of providing occupational training for business and industry. The Segway was purchased from Triangle Segway, which recently opened its dealership in downtown Raleigh’s City Market and is the only authorized Segway dealer in North Carolina's Triangle region.
Worldwide, more than 400 police and security agencies now use Segway Personal Transporters (“PT”) to patrol downtown business districts, airports, parks and campuses. Eco-friendly Segway PTs have zero emissions during operation, and the i2 model gets up to 24 miles on a single battery charge. The college’s newly purchased police-badged Segway PT, which is already generating a lot of positive interest around campus, will be utilized for instructional purposes.
"Several area police departments are currently using Segways for law enforcement purposes, and Nash Community College will be providing the training that will instruct the officers on how to use the Segway effectively for general patrol duties and at special events,” stated Wayne Lamm, Nash Community College’s director of law enforcement training.
With a Segway PT, police officers have faster response times than foot patrols, greater flexibility and maneuverability than cruisers, and better visibility than either option. Because each officer stands 8-inches higher than the ground, they have an improved perspective on sidewalks and streets, and inside buildings, and they are also more visible and approachable in community policing situations.
Triangle Segway offers sales, service, corporate team-building events, and mobile marketing. Its City Market showroom is the starting point for its Segway guided tours of downtown Raleigh. Triangle Segway is the only authorized Segway dealer and Segway tour operator in North Carolina's Triangle region. Its guided tours have been featured in Raleigh’s News & Observer, WRAL TV, NBC-17 and News 14 Carolina. For more on Triangle Segway, visit its website at www.trianglesegway.com.
