Santa Clarita, CA, May 27, 2008 --(PR.com)-- At the Rotary District Conference in Simi valley on May 17, the Santa Clarita Rotary Club received five prestigious awards. These awards were based on service projects from all 36 clubs in Rotary District 5260, of which Santa Clarita is a part. The projects were judged by several committees of Rotarians and were based on projects completed during the 2007-2008 year.

Santa Clarita Rotary received first place in the Community Service category for a project completed at Old Orchard Elementary School in Newhall. This project involved enclosing a play area and purchasing equipment for special needs pre-school students enrolled and attending Old Orchard Elementary School. This project was later presented in the February, 2008 issue of the Rotarian magazine, read by more than one million Rotarians worldwide.

Also receiving first place was the Club's Public Relations, based on the weekly newsletter designed by Linda Pedersen and the website and blog maintained by Connie Ragen Green and Theresa Stern, as well as numeroud articles and photographs.

Santa Clarita Rotary also received an award for the Interact Club started by Rotarian Sue Endress. This club meets weekly at West ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch.

The vocational award won by the Club was based on the Job Shadow Day, organized by Rotarian Dan Aldrich. Middle school students from throughout the Santa Clarita Valley spent the day shadowing local business owners, school principals, and political leaders.

Santa Clarita Rotary also won two general awards for service to the community of Santa Clarita in the area of Youth and Community Service. The Club has never won so many awards at one time during its almost fifty year history.
