War Room Logistics' Poll Shows John Mccain Leads Barack Obama in Florida, Democratic Voters Not Happy, Economy Remains Number One Issue
Gainesville, FL, May 29, 2008 --(PR.com)-- In a poll of registered voters in the state of Florida, WRL reports Republican John McCain with a 12.6% point lead over Democrat Barack Obama among voters that have definitely made up their minds. (McCain 38.6%: Obama 26%)
When voters who are unsure of their choice were asked “which way do you lean as of today?”, John McCain’s lead balloons to 22.9% over Barack Obama. (McCain 58.4%: Obama 35.5%) 51.9% of registered voters say the economy is the most important issue driving their vote when selecting a candidate for President of the United States.
“The drawn out Democratic Primary situation in Florida is clearly having an effect on the candidates,” says Alex Patton, WRL Partner.
Among Republicans polled, 75.3% are definitely supporting John McCain with 10.5% leaning towards McCain. Among Democrats polled, 37.6% are definitely supporting Barack Obama with 12.9% leaning towards supporting Barack Obama. In fact, 26.7% of Democrats polled indicate they are leaning towards voting for John McCain.
McCain leads among white voters (65.4%:29.8%), Hispanic voters (57.3%:33.8%), all income segments, all age groups, especially with voters 60 and older (18-29 51.5%:43.9%, 30-39 53.8%:42.5%, 40-49 56.3%:37.5%, 50-59 56%:39.2%, and 60+ 63.7%:28.7%).
Obama leads among African American voters (62.2%:28%).
When voters were asked to self identify themselves as very liberal, somewhat liberal, moderate, somewhat conservative, or very conservative, one of the most interesting trends emerges. Among voters that identify themselves as “very liberal”, 44.2% indicate they are definitely or leaning towards voting for John McCain.
“I think this poll clearly indicates In Florida, the Democratic Party has a lot of work to do to heal their self inflicted wounds,” says Alex Patton.
51.9% of voters report that the most important issue driving their decision in the campaign for US President is the Economy. This remains unchanged from previous WRL polling conducted in Florida on 5/5/2008.
Methodology
645 Registered voters in the state of Florida were interviewed in a random sample taken May 21-23, 2008. Respondents were screened for voter registration. All interviews were conducted by telephone surveys with IVR technology.
