Carver Author is Now Available at the Library
Carver Author Alex Hutchinson used to write at the library while dreaming that one day people would be checking out his books. That day has arrived.
Carver, MA, May 29, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Writers throughout history have used different means to capture their words onto the written page. From quill and ink to word processors they found their voices and told the stories that have become our fables and our history. In the Internet age, a writer is lost without the use of a computer. In his late twenties Alex Hutchinson was a writer without an implement but he did have a library card. Alex spent countless hours at the Carver Public Library, sitting at their desktops spelling out story after story honing his craft in the hopes of one day becoming a published author.
Alex describes what it was like, “I’d often let my eyes drift away from the monitor and watch people searching the stacks for a book to open up their world. I dreamed that sometime in the distant future, people would be coming to the library in order to check out the books I had written. At the time it seemed a very distant dream but not anymore.”
After moving to Florida in 2001, Alex found himself on an epic journey where he would fight in the now banned club boxing circuit, wrestle in the front of live audiences and he even became a publicist for a heavyweight prizefighter. By 2004 Alex had a ton of exciting stories to tell and knew that it was time to get his work published. Four years later, Alex has self-published five novels and one book of poetry. His writing has appeared in 22 publications including Ring Magazine and Boxing Digest. He has received over 1,000 poetry reviews and won 19 poetry awards. Despite all of these accomplishments there was still one thing missing. Having moved back to Carver in 2007 he visited the Library and noticed that his books weren’t available in the system. Luckily the reference librarian Amy Sheperdson also noticed and thought it odd that Alex, who had appeared twice on the cover of The Carver Reporter newspaper, still didn’t have books on the shelves. On her very next order she secured four of his novels to be added to the collection.
Alex was thrilled by this accomplishment, “I feel like I just won the literary lottery. This was a long time dream and now it finally came true. I couldn’t be happier.”
The four books Virgin Gloves, Backyard Empire, Anarchy Bell and Almost Columbine are now housed at the Carver library and available in the SAILS library network. SAILS is based in southeastern Massachusetts and makes up 75 libraries in 39 towns. Anyone with a SAILS card can order the books through their system and even online by choosing which library they want to pick up the books at. The Carver library is located at 2 Meadowbrook Way and is open six days a week.
Alex Hutchinson has recently announced that he will be releasing a new novel on September 1st, 2008. His website is Suburban Fiction.com.
