iGavel Hosts Spring Auctions by Witherell’s and Elder’s Antiques
Featuring a Rare 6 Ft. Tall 20th Century Chinese Vase and a Gilt Bronze Easter Egg owned by Mining Mogul William Boyce Thompson.
New York, NY, June 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- iGavel.com, the online fine art and antiques auction house, is hosting two exciting auctions featuring an array of antiquities, paintings, prints, Asian antiques, silver, furniture, decorative arts, and watches. A highlight of Elder's Antique’s Late Spring On-line Auction Sensation (running from May 26 – June 5th) is a massive Chinese 20th Century Cloisonne Palace Vase (Item No. 1051997). The rare palace vase was made in three sections elaborately decorated with diamond patterns, landscapes, and various species of birds. It is priced to sell anywhere from $6,000 to $8,000. One noteworthy item from Witherell’s Spring Fine Art & Antique Auction (running from May 21 – June 9) is a small collection of presidential material including a dinner plate from the Grant Service (Item No. 1045691). The collection is estimated to hammer anywhere from $500 to $700.
Other objects of merit from the Witherell’s Auction include a nice selection of Rookwood pottery (Item No. 1045685) priced to sell in the range of $800 to $1,200, and an extensive flatware service by Georg Jensen (Item No. 1045698) listed with a starting bid of $5,000. Also up for bid, a rare painting by the 19th century California artist, Thomas Oxley Miller estimated to close anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000. Finally, the true discovery in this sale is a 1931 notarized letter and fabric sample from the Spirit of St. Louis (Item No. 1045697) that was found in a New Jersey dumpster.
Elder’s Antiques auction includes a French 18th Century Gilt Bronze Easter Egg (Item No. 1051936) purported to have been given to Emperor Paul I of Russia from a Prime Minister. Previously owned by American mining mogul Wlliam Boyce Thomspon, this exquisite piece has an estimated value of $8,000 to $12,000. The egg is encircled with a twisted crown of thorns and depicts two striking biblical scenes. Another item included in the auction is a grape pattern water pitcher (Item No. 1052105) by Georg Jensen. Its ebony handle has silver scrolled at the lower end and its body rests upon a band of grape clusters. The pitcher has a starting bid of $4,000. Elder’s will hold a live gallery exhibition on June 4th from noon till 7:30pm. Please call (941) 488-1005 or email them at info@eldersantiques.com with any questions.
