Lions Clubs Conduct Glaucoma Screening and Educational Event with New Diaton Tonometer – Glaucoma Eye Test Though Eyelid
BiCOM Inc. in conjunction with The Lions Clubs of Staten Island, New York held an educational and screening event to detect and prevent glaucoma using Unique tonometer Diaton which screens through the Eyelid without use of anesthetic drops. The event was very successful, and the Lions Club members learned how to further their attempts to educate and screen the public in order to prevent blindness. Lions Club members are planning to add painless Diaton tonometry to their health screening events.
New York, NY, June 05, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Diaton Tonometry is new and unique approach to measuring intraocular (eye) pressure (IOP) Through The Eyelid - no contact with the cornea, no anesthesia or sterilization is required. BiCOM's pen-like, hand-held, portable device is perfect for measuring eye pressure in children and adults and can be used by individuals without prior medical background. Lions Clubs are a network of 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Since 1917, they have been known for working to end preventable blindness, a cause BiCOM greatly supports. Lions participate in locally-based events to help those less fortunate. “Every Lions Club group should use this device!” raved Emil Adinolfi, President of a Staten Island group. “If every Lions Club worldwide were to add this small device, we could do screenings for not only the members, but the public”, Mr. Adinolfi added.
This device is irreplaceable for mass glaucoma screenings. Lions Clubs plan to go to churches, synagogues, schools and do their own local outreach events.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness" during the association's international convention. Today, Lions are recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired. Lions help with sight conservation through eyeglass recycling, sight partnerships and countless other sight services. The Lions ambitious SightFirst Program has restored sight through cataract surgeries, prevented serious vision loss and improved eye care services for hundreds of millions of adults and children. To continue and expand this effort, Lions have launched Campaign SightFirst II, with a goal of raising at least US$150 million.
Undiagnosed and untreated, glaucoma can cause blindness. Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in all age groups - from babies to senior citizens. Everyone needs to get diagnosed to preserve eyesight.
Mr. Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM Inc., has pointed out, “With the introduction of our unique tonometer Diaton, we’re proud to challenge Glaucoma, a “silent thief of sight”, that carries an ever increasing threat of causing blindness as the aging population is growing in US and abroad.”
BiCOM Team has recently actively participated in the first World Glaucoma Day where its efforts have resulted in reaching millions worldwide.
Because Diaton tonometer is easy to use and portable, outreach programs are a great opportunity to get the word out about preventable blindness. BiCOM plans to provide additional support and incentives to clubs that add Diaton tonometry – “Glaucoma Eye Test” to their activities.
BiCOM hopes to work in conjunction with Lions Clubs worldwide to make sure glaucoma is detected and treated at the earliest stage possible.
