Tallahassee, FL, June 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Alma Gonzalez, a democratic candidate for Leon County Commissioner-at-Large in Tallahassee, Florida received the support of nationally-recognized singer/comedian Jade Esteban Estrada when he performed at a fundraiser in her honor on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Ray’s Steel City Saloon in Tallahassee, Florida.
“His show stopping performance at my fundraiser made the evening! I cannot thank him enough for lending his talents tonight. He was truly phenomenal” stated Gonzalez, who hopes to win the election in late August. “I have said early and often that one of my goals is to expand the County’s anti-discrimination clause to include sexual orientation. Jade’s show tonight reminded all of us why this is so important.”
Gonzalez is engaged in a race to win a seat on the Leon County Commission. Leon County is home to Tallahassee, the capital city.
”What happens here has implications across Florida, the fourth most populous state in the union,” Gonzalez continued.
Estrada performed a song from his award-winning solo musical comedy “Icons: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 3” entitled “Post-Gay Republican.” In the song, he portrays Mary Cheney, the daughter of Vice-President Dick Cheney.
Former Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher commissioned Estrada the title of Kentucky Colonel in 2006. The singer joined other honorary colonels including Ronald Reagan, Johnny Depp, Winston Churchill and Pope John Paul II.
No stranger to the national political scene, the Texas native publicly endorsed Howard Dean for President in 2003.
Estrada is the visiting host of the 2008 Tallahassee PrideFest weeklong celebration and the host of the 19th Annual South Florida GLAAD Media Awards on the Bravo Network set to air June 27, 2008.
