Community Band Prepares for a Spring Festival
Houston, TX, April 07, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The Lone Star Symphonic Band has been preparing for a concert of this caliber for two years. The Band will perform a concert, titled “A Spring Festival,” on Sunday, May 21st, 2006, at 7:00pm. The concert will be held at Houston Community College – Town and Country Campus, Performing Arts Center, Theater #1. Tickets will be $10 per person and can be purchased at the door.
The Band has gone through a rebuilding phase beginning in April 2004, and has steadily grown from a base of 18 members to its current membership of 60 musicians. The Lone Star Symphonic Band has performed several concerts over the last two years, but none of them of this magnitude. Selections to be performed include: “Overture to Candide” by Leonard Bernstein, “Crown Imperial” by William Walton, “Chorale and Alleluia” by Howard Hanson, “Manhattan Beach March” by John Phillip Sousa, and “Variation Suite” by Dr. Clancy Weeks. Smaller ensembles, made up of musicians from the Band, will be performing at the concert as well.
KUHF 88.7 FM is the media sponsor of the Lone Star Symphonic Band, and plans to host the “Spring Festival” Concert. Mr. Eric Ladau, KUHF’s NightClassics Host, plans to Emcee the Concert.
The Lone Star Symphonic Band is an adult semi-professional wind ensemble dedicated to bringing performances of artistic merit to the Houston area community. In the summer of 2005, the Band entered into a joint venture with Houston Community College – Town and Country Campus, offering the band as a course for credit to HCC students interested in performing with an ensemble. The Band is under the direction of Dr. Clancy Weeks.
