Baotou Air Crash Suit Filed at No. 1 Shanghai Intermediate People’s Court
Shanghai, China, June 19, 2008 --(PR.com)-- On June 16, 2008, Lehman, Lee & Xu attorneys Hao Junbo and Jiang Kenan filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Bombardier, General Electric and China Eastern Airlines on behalf of the thirty two families whose relatives were killed in the Baotou air crash on January 21, 2004.
Judge Pan of No. 1 Shanghai Intermediate People’s Court received the complaint. Under Chinese civil procedure law, Judge Pan has one week to provide notification as to whether or not the court will accept the lawsuit.
“We look forward to receiving Judge Pan’s decision by next Monday. Although the Baotou air crash occurred over four years ago, the absence of our clients’ family members in their lives will be forever,” said Lehman, Lee & Xu attorney Hao Junbo. “More than anything, we wish for this suit to move forward so that we can obtain some closure for these still-grieving families.”
The Baotou air crash lawsuit made history in 2005, becoming the first lawsuit to be filed by Chinese parties in an American venue against a Chinese, Canadian and American company. However, due to procedural issues, the suit is now being tried in China.
Lehman, Lee & Xu is pursuing this case on behalf of the victims’ families in partnership with American firm Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, LLP.
