New Authors Increase Reading Among Young Boys by Attacking Their Funny Bone

New authors Mike Knudson and Steve Wilkinson look to increase reading among middle-grade elementary school boys through their humorous new series of books.

North Salt Lake, UT, June 22, 2008 --(PR.com)-- First time authors Mike Knudson and Steve Wilkinson, along with accomplished illustrator Stacy Curtis, have focused on middle-grade boys as they created their hilarious new series of books. Based on two loveable characters, Raymond and Graham, whose names come from the authors’ own middle names, their story portrays everyday life events in humorous fourth-grade dialog.

“It’s a story that all kids will relate to and which will put a smile on adults’ faces as they fondly reminisce back to their own childhood,” Mike Knudson says. “We try to incorporate the emotions that all of us experience and write about them in a comical way. Among many things, our book deals with embarrassment, fear, and wonderful elementary school crushes we all lived through.”

According to Knudson, “When we were approached by Viking Children’s Books, they felt that this series fit perfectly within a niche of the market the is currently not being filled.” There are many books geared towards young girls, but despite the influx of fantasy genre books that many boys enjoy, there is a lack of just plain old fun, laugh-out-loud, humor that everyone can enjoy.

The first book in the series, Raymond and Graham Rule the School, will be released on July 3, 2008. It is already receiving wonderful reviews. “ . . . The authors draw a bead on the fourth-grade funny bone and hit a bull’s-eye.” – Kirkus Reviews, June 15.
