The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club announced the results of the 41st Annual L.A. Watts Summer Games Boys and Girls Soccer Tournaments presented by Chivas USA.
Hermosa Beach, CA, June 23, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) announced today the results of the L.A. Watts Summer Games Boys and Girls Soccer Tournaments. The 41st annual L.A. Watts Summer Games are hosted by the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce (www.LAJCC.org) and were presented by Chivas USA (www.cdchivasusa.com) and coordinated and supported by volunteers from the Hermosa Beach Soccer Club. The Games were played on June 7, 8 and 14, 2008.
The two-weekend long soccer tournament, played at the Columbia Park Soccer Complex in Torrance, CA, included 32 boys high school teams and 20 girls high school teams. Teams competed during the opening weekend in a three-game round robin competition, with bracket leaders moving to the playoff rounds.
“The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club is proud of its continued involvement with the L.A. Watts Summer Games. For over 40 years the Games have played a significant role in building bridges of understanding among our local youth,” said Jesse Torres, HBSC Club Founder. “My pride in the Games comes not only from my involvement as a volunteer but also my experiences many years ago as a player in this tournament. Despite my many successes on the soccer field over the years, my memories of this special event rank at the top. It is the reason I chose to dedicate our Club to serving the needs of the Games and the LAJCC.”
“This is the Club’s fifth year coordinating and supporting the Games’ boys and girls soccer tournaments - and every year it has gotten better,” said Brian Dragich, HBSC President. “What was especially rewarding for everyone was Chivas USA’s leadership as title sponsor. Apart from Chivas USA’s substantial financial support, the Games received considerable back office assistance. Chivas USA is a true community leader.”
The 2008 L.A. Watts Summer Games Boys Soccer Tournament winner was Animo High School (Inglewood, CA) which defeated Loyola High School (Los Angeles, CA) 2 -1 in the tournament final. Sylmar High School’s girls’ soccer team defeated Royal High School (Simi Valley, CA) 2-1.
The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club extends its gratitude to its generous 2007/2008 sponsors: Del Amo Construction (DelAmoConstruction.com), Elliott/Drinkward Construction (ElliottDrinkward.com), TomatoBank, N.A. (TomatoBank.com), Coastline Steel (CoastlineSteel.com), Quality Seafood (QualitySeafood.net), SCS Engineering Inc (SCSEngineering.com) and FFI Soccer Magazine (FFISoccer.com).
The Hermosa Beach Soccer Club (www.HermosaBeachSoccerClub.com) was founded in 2000. Located in Los Angeles’ South Bay, HBSC is home to men’s Premier, Over-30 and Over-40 teams as well as a women’s Premier team.
