Designer Raises Funds for Seeing Eye Dogs Through Knitting Pattern Sales
Inspired by mother's experience, Colorado knitwear designer, Kristi Schueler raises funds for The Seeing Eye of Morristown, NJ through on-line sales of a downloadable sock knitting pattern featuring a unique paw print lace and brailled cuff created by knitting beads into the fabric.
Fort Collins, CO, June 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Moved by her mother’s experiences with two dogs from The Seeing Eye, knitwear designer, Kristi Schueler, recently released a knitting pattern through her company, Designedly, Kristi to raise funds for The Seeing Eye dog guide school of Morristown, New Jersey. One hundred percent of the net profits generated by on-line sales will be donated to the school.
“Having Sootie allowed me to crawl out of my shell I had sunk into since loosing the last of my sight. Without her, I would have never taken computer classes, gone to college or been active in my community,” says Patti Schueler, Kristi’s mother. Patti of Willmar, Minnesota was trained for her first dog guide from Seeing Eye in 1990. In 2003, Patti returned to Seeing Eye for her second dog, Gaston, and continues to appear at speaking engagements for various organizations around the region.
Marian Ju-Scozzare, a New Jersey resident and knitter said, “I will probably make several pairs since my husband and I raise puppies for the Seeing Eye Foundation and I’d like to make a pair in remembrance of each puppy we’ve raised.” Only a week after the release nearly $500 has been raised through sales to persons around the globe. When asked what she had hoped to raise Schueler said, “I thought I would be doing pretty good if I raised a couple hundred in the first month. I never imagined such a sizable response in such a short time. I am in awe of the generosity of the knitting community to do good things for good causes.” According to a knitter known online as Poethead, “Not only is this such a great cause, the pattern is a fantastic one!“
The Guided By Love sock pattern features lace paw prints moving diagonally across the instep and along the edge of the leg until it reaches the cuff which reads “Guided By Love” in braille created by knitting glass beads into the fabric. It can be purchased as a downloadable PDF file from Schueler’s web site at http://www.designedlykristi.com/go/guidedbylove.
