Eco Friendly Process Replaces Toxic Hexavalent Chrome Plated Tubes and Bars

Commercial Fluid Power in conjunction with Gerdau Macsteel NitroSteel division has developed an Eco friendly replacement product for toxic producing hard chrome plated tubes and bars. Nitro-tuff tubing and bars treated in the NitroSteel process waste product is Water. Hexavalent chromium is the toxic carcinogenic by product created when manufacturing, fabricating or disposing of hard chrome plated products.

Typical applications for these rods and tubes are used in the manufacturing of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, shocks, pumps and motor housings. Commercial Fluid Power has overcome many of the challenges that have limited this technologies potential in the past and will be speaking in Washington DC at the 2008 Presidential Green Engineering & Chemistry Conference being held the week of June 23rd, 2008.

Bob Rick the Merchandising Manager from Commercial Fluid Power is the guest speaker at the 2008 Presidential Green Engineering & Chemistry Conference and will be discussing how this Eco friendly process can replace hard chrome plated tubing and bar products. This technology is known as ferritic nitro carburizing and oxidizing or the NitroSteel process. This heat treat process creates a wear layer ideally suited to replace hard chrome plated surfaces.

Hexavalent chromium is one of the most dangerous, cancer causing waste products created by our industrial system. The EU (European Union) has taken action and has banned industrial hard chrome from their vehicles in September of 2000 under the End of Life Vehicle directive. In the U.S. the most recognizable case involving hexavalent chromium is the Erin Brockovich story where an entire community suffered from this poisoning.

Nitro-tuff tubing and bar products compete with typical CPOD (Chrome Plated Outside Diameter) and CPID (Chrome Plated Interior Diameter) tubing products and CP (Chrome Plated) bar products. Nitro-tuff tubes not only are Eco friendly but are cost competitive and offer the same performance in the field and even better corrosion resistance when compared to typical CPOD, CPID and CP products.
