Raleigh, NC, April 15, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) announces its first annual 5K walk, Strides for Change, to be held in North Carolina on SATURDAY, APRIL 22, 2006 at 8:40 a.m. at THE IMPERIAL CENTER (Exit 282 off I-40). The walk will start at the Chelsea/Winchester Parking Lot and is open to all.
Strides for Change will raise much needed funds for the programs and services MADD provides and will raise community awareness about the serious problem of alcohol-related automobile crashes in NC, which cause many fatalities and serious injuries throughout the state.
“Strides for Change is a new venture for MADD North Carolina, and we’re thrilled to receive the level of support we have from both the corporate sector and from individual citizens of our state,” said Craig Lloyd, MADD North Carolina State Executive Director. “This is a great opportunity to raise community awareness about the serious problems we face related to the far too often occurrence of alcohol-related injuries and fatalities and to raise the funds necessary to provide the programs and services that are so urgently needed throughout North Carolina. Strides for Change offers a time and a place for our victims, survivors and families to get together in an environment of hope, love and community sharing.”
Strides for Change is nationally presented by Nissan North America, Inc. and locally presented by The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin. Walkers will help rally support for MADD’s mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
Strides for Change is a 5K, non-competitive walk that enables corporations and individuals to team up with MADD in keeping our children and communities safe. There is no entry fee because the walk is pledge-based. Participants are asked to raise $100 each and to form teams of 10 or more. Other activities that can be enjoyed by all walkers on the day of the event include a Health and Safety Fair, Kid’s Zone with activities for children and a tribute area to honor and remember the lives of those affected by drunk driving.
Walkers and their pledge supporters are the key ingredients in securing the funds necessary to benefit MADD’s lifesaving mission. For example, a $25 donation to the organization enables MADD to connect with 20 safe drivers who pledge to “Tie One On For Safety” during the holidays and provide each with a red ribbon and safe driving tips.
“Nissan believes in keeping our roadways safe for our employees, families and our children.” said Robert Yakushi, Nissan North America, Automotive Safety Engineer.
Local residents can register for the walk as an individual, form their own friends and family team or form a corporate team. Registration information is available online at www.stridesforchange.org.
Strides for Change is nationally presented by Nissan North America, Inc. The local Corporate Advocate Sponsor is THE LAW OFFICES OF JAMES SCOTT FARRIN. Other walk sponsors include MONITECH IGNITION INTERLOCK SYSTEMS, TAKATA, REHABILITATION SUPPORT SERVICES, RBC CENTURA, TRUE2FORM COLLISION REPAIR CENTERS and THE FAYETTEVILLE OBSERVER.
Other 2006 MADD Strides for Change events will be taking place in Dallas, Houston, Denver, San Antonio, Cleveland, Boston, Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Columbus, Michigan, Cincinnati, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Nashville, Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento. Anyone can sign up to walk at one of these local events, become a virtual walker from anywhere, 24 hours a day, or make a charitable donation to help support Strides for Change by logging onto www.stridesforchange.org.
MADD is the premiere organization working to fight drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. MADD is a 501(c) 3 charity with hundreds of offices and approximately 2 million members nationwide. More then 300,000 lives have been saved since MADD’s founding in 1980.
