Economic Impact of Disability Claim Denials Now Reaching Hundreds of Millions of Dollars

Allan Checkoway, author of ‘A Consumer’s Disability Insurance Guide’ reports that Social Security and private insurer disability claim denials now affect over 1.4 million disabled Americans every year. Over 60 percent of initial Social Security disability claims are denied. Plus, it’s estimated that more than 20 percent of commercial insurer claims with one major disability insurer were denied in a recent year. Is this the wrong time to be disabled in America?

Newton, MA, April 15, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Checkoway, an Employee Benefits Consultant, has personally observed the financial devastation when LTD benefits are denied. “It’s traumatic enough trying to adjust to the emotional, psychological and physical challenges of becoming disabled. Adding the loss of income is like walking into a stone wall. It’s no wonder that more than nearly 50 percent of bankruptcies and mortgage foreclosures are caused by disability”.

“I was recently asked “why are disability claims most frequently turned down?” My immediate response was insufficient preparation and a lack of clear understanding of the claims process itself. This is coupled with the “aloneness” of filing a Long Term Disability Claim without being able to communicate with others sharing similar experiences. It all adds up to an unsuccessful outcome.

This week Allan released a new E-Book ‘A Consumer’s Disability Insurance Guide’. The e-book helps prepare disabled claimants to “do it right the first time”. It teaches them the “system” and gives them a roadmap to follow. Our readers get to participate in a Disability “Message Board” which helps them gain personal access to thousands of others who can share their experiences with each other. It empowers our readers as they open up a whole new world of knowledge.”

Allan points out the enormity of the Lifestyle Changes that occur when becoming totally disabled. “You’ll need guidance on adapting your home. You don’t just walk into your local pharmacy and buy grab bars and railings for your bathroom. Building a ramp outside your house and installing an elevator will be new adventures.”

How do you continue to travel to different parts of the world? We discuss AccessABLE Travel covering the various modes of transportation available to those that are disabled. It’s even possible to go on an African safari when you connect with an AccessABLE Travel Agency.
