St. Michaels, MD, July 04, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Offshore Sailing School and The Inn at Perry Cabin announced today an exclusive Spa and Sail Retreat, available through October, providing a true learning experience surrounded by culture and wellness activities.
The five-day retreat includes Offshore Sailing School’s signature Learn to Sail course or Bareboat Cruising Preparation course with:
• Accommodations in a Signature room
• $150 credit for the resort’s acclaimed Linden Spa
• Breakfast daily and dinner twice during the retreat in the Inn’s spectacular waterfront restaurant
• A ticket to the renowned Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, adjacent to the resort
• A welcome amenity tote bag with hat and sunscreen
The five-day learning vacation starts on Sunday and includes comprehensive morning seminars followed by on-water drills and exercises each day Monday through Thursday, leaving half-days to explore the museum, enjoy the spa and other amenities, or walk through the quaint streets and shops of historic St. Michaels. The week culminates Friday in a practice sail without the instructor aboard – a rewarding prelude to the graduation toast as diplomas are awarded. US Sailing and Colgate Sailing certifications are available for each course. For those with more time, Fast Track to Cruising® combines Learn to Sail and Bareboat Cruising Preparation in an 8-day program starting Thursdays.
The Learn to Sail course, taught on award-winning Colgate 26 sailboats is designed for new sailors or those with limited experience. Learn to Sail goes through the intermediate level, providing confidence to sail on open waters like the Chesapeake. The Bareboat Cruising Preparation course is the next step up, with instruction on a new Hunter 45 cruising boat – big and bold with all the comforts of home below. Those who participate in this course gain the skills to charter boats of similar size or sail their own boats anywhere in the world. The term “bareboat” refers to hiring a boat as one would a car, without a captain (chauffeur) in command. Couples or friends with different levels of experience may each take the course of their choice while sharing free time together. A minimum of two people are required for each sailing course. No more than four per boat are taught at a time, per instructor.
“The Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels was a gorgeous facility for learning to sail,” wrote Diane Gensler of Holtland, Pennsylvania. “Our instructor was absolutely terrific. He was so knowledgeable and patient. We highly recommend this course and location to anyone interested in learning to sail. Outstanding experience!”
The Inn at Perry Cabin Spa and Sail Retreat starts at $2365 per person ($473 per night) double occupancy and includes accommodations in a delightful Signature room Sunday through Thursday night, the tax on the room, the sailing course of choice from America’s #1 Sailing School® ($1295-$1495 value) and all the extras noted above. Suites and other accommodations are available, as is a non-sailor rate for those accompanying participating students. The single supplement for taking a room alone starts at $670.
“I can’t think of a place I’d rather be this summer or fall,” states Offshore Sailing School CEO Doris Colgate. “The Eastern Shore boasts some of the finest sailing on the Chesapeake; a lovely place to learn and relax in one of the best eco-friendly climates you’ll find.”
About Offshore Sailing School: Founded by Steve Colgate in 1964 and headquartered in Fort Myers, Florida, more than 100,000 men and women have graduated from Offshore Sailing School. Ranked #1 by Practical Sailor in both instructors and curriculum and the only sailing school recognized by the American Council on Education for credit at the college level, Offshore was named “Best Sailing Lessons” in New York Magazine’s 2006 Best of New York issue and boasts the cover story in Delta’s SKY magazine December 2008. The school provides training and certification at all levels of sailing instruction. Campuses are in the New York/New Jersey area, on the Chesapeake, in southwest Florida and the Keys; and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
About The Inn at Perry Cabin: This luxurious manor house – an Orient Express resort – is steeped in rich colonial history, situated on Maryland's Eastern Shore in the Victorian resort town of St Michaels in Talbot County. All 81 guest rooms are individually furnished in its own particular theme. English and early American antiques are elegantly offset by understated, classic Laura Ashley fabrics and wallpapers, in a comfortable luxurious atmosphere conducive to rest and unwinding. Facilities include an outdoor heated swimming pool, the Linden Spa (on Travel & Leisure’s “Top 10 Spas to Watch”), bicycles, access to nearby golf courses, fishing charters, sailing trips, area tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, hunting and sporting clays. Chef Salter’s culinary wizardry and inspiring personality takes him all over the world, accepting invitations as a representative for The Inn at Perry Cabin and Maryland's Eastern Shore, and making frequent guest appearances on national and regional television programs. In his free time he serves as celebrity chef for Crosse & Blackwell, participating in the company's media tours nationwide. Salter was the recent winner of the National Oyster Cook-Off, and is an active participant in James Beard Foundation special events.
