12,000 Miles in a Golf Kart - Just to Find Art?

Denver, CO, July 04, 2008 --(PR.com)-- This summer, two friends from Denver will travel the country in a golf kart (yes, a golf kart) to discover, inspire, and expose everyday art in the fabric of America.

The 100-day journey began in Rialto, California on May 20. Jeremy Make and Andy Raney picked up their 1997 Club Car golf kart - decked out with the fins and grille of a 1957 Chevy Belair - and logged their first dozen miles. Over the next few months, they will make a loop around the border of the United States, stopping in more than 35 states to connect with artists from all walks of life.

Raney had been traveling abroad during the lead up to the 2004 Presidential election when he had the idea for the cross-country adventure. “It was hard for me to define American for the people I was meeting. I kept asking myself: Who is America? What makes up the fabric of our culture? What makes us who we are?” Before graduation from Stetson University in 2005, Andy joked with friends that he would someday tout a Guiness Book World Record for the longest journey on a golf kart. His fraternity brothers believed him, and so did Jeremy Make. “Andy was so passionate about meeting people, hearing their story,” says Make. “I wanted to be a part of what he had going on, whatever it was. I wanted to partake in something that empowered Americans, something to give them a platform for telling the tales of their passion – and how they came to be.”

The two developed a plan, hired a few friends, bought a golf kart, and unleashed the project: kART Across America. After partnering with Global Arts Limited, a Denver-based non-profit committed to projects for educators, artists, and writers; and applying for the Guiness contract, the boys set off.

With 157 million people making the arts a part of their lives every year, finding art and artists in every major city in America shouldn’t be a problem. But Make and Raney are equally as interested in exploring those artists without significant resources, in seeking out their answer to the question: What’s your art? Visit the website to learn where you can find them next.

Along the way, they will be mailing videotapes back to Denver for weekly production updates with Lyman Smith and Eagle Ridge Media - eventually, the footage will become a feature-length documentary. The boys are also in the process of launching a social networking website - WhatsMyArt.com, and assembling a photographic journal of the trip.

For more information, to schedule an interview, or to simply have a good, old-fashioned conversation with a stranger, Andy and Jeremy are making their cell phone numbers public for the duration of the trip. “Give us a call to share your art or just chat,” says Make. “We’ll obviously have plenty of time on the road” quipped Raney. To reach Jeremy, call (303) 908-3402 or email Jeremy@KartAcrossAmerica.com. To reach Andy, call (303) 941-2639 or email Andy@KartAcrossAmerica.com.
