Samson Carts/CrateXpress Creates Two Environmental Impact Calculators; Will Help Reduce a Building’s Carbon Footprint
Samson Carts/CrateXpress developed two environmental impact calculators to show property and asset managers the environmental and financial benefits of using plastic and sustainable products in an office move.
Chicago, IL, July 08, 2008 --(PR.com)-- ICB, LLC - Samson Carts/CrateXpress developed two environmental impact calculators to show property and asset managers the environmental and financial benefits of using plastic and sustainable products in an office move. The calculators premiered on June 3, 2008.
One demonstrates the effect of replacing plywood carts with plastic carts, while the other shows the difference between using plastic containers against the more traditional cardboard boxes.
The calculators show how using sustainable, environmentally-conscious products can help reduce a building’s carbon footprint, while saving substantial amounts of money on a building’s operation.
Measurements taken by the calculator include the number of employees involved, the number of boxes/carts needed, the number of trucks required for delivery, the number of elevator trips, labor costs, rental costs, assembly costs and the move’s carbon footprint on the environment.
For example, the calculator for using Tyga Boxes versus cardboard boxes for a 425-employee office relocation, shows a cost of $70.79 per employee using cardboard boxes, versus $29.56 using Tyga Boxes. The net difference in the move’s carbon footprint is 18.982 lbs.
CrateXpress uses the patented reusable Samson Carts (plastic carts) for office moves as an alternative to plywood (or other wood product) and metal carts. Tyga Boxes is a patented system of integrated plastic boxes and dollies.
Always looking to reduce a building’s carbon footprint even further, ICB, LLC - Samson Carts/CrateXpress, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Power Partnership, will purchase more than 220,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power annually by buying renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Sterling Planet, a leading national supplier of green power products. This purchase will meet 50 percent of the Samson Carts/CrateXpress purchased electricity use.
According to the EPA, this purchase is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of more than 31 passenger vehicles per year, or the equivalent of electricity needed to power nearly 23 average American homes annually.
“This is a huge honor and we are proud to be recognized by the EPA,” said David L. King, President, Samson Carts/CrateXpress. “Purchasing green power helps our organization become more sustainable, while also sending a message to others across the U.S. that supporting clean sources of electricity is a sound business decision and an important choice in reducing climate risk.”
Green power is electricity that is generated from environmentally-preferable renewable resources, including wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. These resources generate electricity with a net zero increase in carbon dioxide emissions, while offering a superior environmental profile compared to traditional power generation sources. Green power purchases also support the development of new renewable energy generation sources nationwide.
