NCU is Candidate for Accreditation by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)

Northcentral University has joined the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and is a candidate for the specific accreditation of NCU's School of Business and Technology Mangament. NCU is already Regionally Accredited through the Higher Learning Commission, a commission of The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Prescott, AZ, April 18, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Northcentral University is pleased to announce its candidacy for accreditation by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). This process impacts most directly the NCU School of Business and Technology Management. During the month of April 2006, more than 1,400 Learners are enrolled in NCU business programs.

ACBSP is the premier accrediting association for business schools and programs with a focus on teaching excellence. In contrast to some other associations that focus primarily on research excellence, ACBSP focuses on the education process while still encouraging research. This emphasis is demonstrated in the ACBSP standards and criteria for accreditation as well as by its membership structure. ACBSP membership is extended to individuals, companies and institutions involved in the delivery of business education as well as those involved in its conferences and special initiatives.

According to Dr. Claudia Santin, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs for NCU, “Candidacy for ACBSP accreditation is welcomed by NCU as a deserved recognition of the quality of our School of Business and Technology Management. At NCU, we combine academic rigor with real-world relevance in a program that produces talented managers, leaders and administrators who have the knowledge and skills they need to help their organizations grow and prosper.”

The ACBSP accreditation brings with it the recognition by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), an organization of accrediting agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education. This permits NCU’s business programs to be listed in resources such as the Higher Education Directory, the CHEA Web site, and a host of other publications that list accredited institutions.

ACBSP had its beginnings in 1988 when representatives of over 150 business schools met to discuss alternatives to then existing regional accreditation agencies that provide institution-wide accreditation to a college or university. The specific goals of the establishing group were to promote improved student-based business education by recognizing quality education programs within regionally accredited institutions. The ACBSP focus adds another layer of oversight to further quality assurance.

At its meeting in January 2001, the CHEA Board of Directors reviewed the recommendations of the CHEA Committee on Recognition and recognized the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs as an accrediting agency specifically for business schools and programs.

The mission of ACBSP is to develop, promote and recognize best practices that contribute to continuous improvement of business education and to accredit qualified business programs. As of March 2006, ACBSP membership included 403 educational institutions, of which 303 had successfully achieved accreditation. The accreditation process involves complex qualitative analysis of candidate programs and generally takes about 18 months. More information is available at www.acbsp.org.
