About the Book (Excerpts & Info)

This is a sequel to The Learnin' Tree. When Roscoe Washington, Clifton Everett's soul brother and trusted employee learns of Clifton's assassination he contacts Carolyn, the girl Clifton was to marry when he returned from his business trip to Hampton Roads. Roscoe learns of two events that will shape the lives of everyone associated with Everett Enterprises: that Carolyn is pregnant and that he is to assume the role of executive officer for Everett Enterprises. He promises revenge and retribution for the murder of his soul brother and at the same time attempt to preserve Everett Enterprises for the heritage of Clifton's seed that found fertility in Carolyn. Roscoe learns that the assassination was the result of a massive plot by powerful individuals in organized crime that was fostered through a family feud between Clifton's father's employer, Abe Gagliard of Gagliard Provisions and a member of the brotherhood of one of the powerful Families. Clifton was associated when he rescued Gagliard Provisions and stepped on toes of powerful Families. Revenge is the subplot that weaves a pattern throughout the book. Family feuds of the powerful Families affect the operation of Everett Enterprises through union strikes and violent demonstrations. In the end the violence is replaced with the finesse of politics and financial fallout is through more subtle maneuvers. Roscoe prepares for this by furthering his education and addressing the new threat that is so preoccupied with destroying Everett Enterprises. Clifton's seed becomes a clone for him and emerges as the next link in the perpetuation of the enterprise his father established.

About the Author

Carl Etheridge is retired and living in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His editorial efforts in local organizations prompted his readers to encourage him in writing his first novel, When Last We Danced. Carl uses his vocabulary to paint the soul and emotions of his characters much like an artist wields the stroke of his brush. Each page becomes a canvas that demonstrates his talent for storytelling and suspense. He recaptures this in his second novel, The Learnin’ Tree with a follow-up completed manuscript of An Eye For An Eye, The Legacy Continues, a sequel to The Learnin’ Tree.
