Three Hide in School Bathroom, Can’t Evade Detection by Sonitrol Pacific

Three suspects spent an hour hiding in a school bathroom in a failed attempt to avoid arrest after they were detected by Sonitrol Pacific's security system.

West Linn, OR, July 23, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Three juveniles suspected of breaking into an Oregon high school hid in the school’s bathroom for an hour in a failed attempt to avoid being found by police July 19.

The school’s Sonitrol Pacific security system detected activity from the roof hatch and an expert sound analyst listened to real-time audio to verify the nature of the activity. The Sonitrol Pacific operator heard voices and sounds of movement and dispatched police in less than a minute. She stayed in contact with police and with a representative from the school district to keep them informed of activity while they were en route.

Officers arrived at the school and began their search for suspects with the assistance of the Sonitrol Pacific operator and her audio detection capabilities. It took an hour to flush them out, but police apprehended three juveniles inside the school. According to officers, the youths locked themselves in a bathroom in hopes of waiting out the police and avoiding arrest. However, as soon as they left the bathroom, a K9 unit was ready to greet them.

The school’s representative said he was ecstatic with the apprehension and that the entire school district valued the security and protection services provided by Sonitrol Pacific.
