Ruggedized Computer Improves Reliability with Datalight Reliance
Reliance and the GE Fanuc CM4, a 3U PowerPC CompactPCI SBC will be used in a sub-system designed for use in harsh environments encountered in an airborne military vehicle application with stringent system requirements for data reliability.
Bothell, WA, July 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Datalight announced today that GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, will use Datalight’s Reliance® data reliability solution in a sub-system designed for a well-known military contractor. Reliance and the GE Fanuc CM4, a 3U PowerPC CompactPCI SBC will be used in a sub-system designed for use in harsh environments encountered in an airborne military vehicle application with stringent system requirements for data reliability.
During testing GE Fanuc engineers discovered that power failure, which can occur under military field conditions, has the potential for causing data loss and corruption below the standard level required for high-availability applications. The system customer was familiar with the data reliability attributes of the Reliance file system from previous projects, and requested that it be included in GE Fanuc’s VxWorks-based sub-system. The addition of the Reliance solution enabled GE Fanuc to satisfy their customer and meet the data reliability requirements of the system.
“This was the first time we’ve used the Datalight solution,” said Paul Scanlon, Global Director of Mil/Aero Systems at GE Fanuc. “Based on the results we saw, Reliance is definitely something we will consider again when customer requirements demand this level of data protection.”
Datalight Reliance file system was designed from the ground up for high reliability applications. Dynamic Transaction Point™ technology provides 100% immunity from file corruption, even after unexpected system interruption. Embedded applications can benefit from faster boot times that remain consistent for the life of the product, regardless of disk size. Flexibility to dynamically tune the file system based on the needs of the application offers OEM’s performance optimization never before available. In addition to Reliance, Datalight produces an intelligent flash media driver called FlashFX™ Pro, with pre-written support for over 200 flash parts. Datalight flash file system products are also available on leading commercial operating systems, including Linux, Microsoft Windows CE, and Mentor Graphics NucleusPLUS.
