About the Author

Mark Lowry, the oldest son of John William II and Laura Launa Lowry, was born in 1900 in Sabougla, Mississippi. His parents, born-again believers in Jesus Christ, taught their nine children the principles of the Christian Faith. At an early age Mark was called by God to be a minister of the Christian Gospel. Overcoming economic, health, and educational problems, he studied, he worked, and he prayed for God’s guidance in accepting that call. He entered the Christian ministry in 1930. For twenty-six years he served churches in Mississippi. His pastoral duties were interrupted during World War II by his service in Italy as a chaplain in the United States Army. In 1956 he moved to Kentucky where he served as the language professor, dean, and acting president of Bethel Baptist College. While in Kentucky, he also served as the pastor of Gracey Baptist Church. Holding the A. B., Th. M., and Th. D. degrees. Mark was a man of many talents. He was a poet, an author, a soldier, a devoted husband, and the father of five children. After retiring in 1965, he continued a life of service until he passed away in July 1986.
