Safco Distribution Center Lands in Virginia
Leading office products distributor selects Hampton Roads and the Port of Virginia for east coast import distribution center.
Windsor, VA, July 29, 2008 --(PR.com)-- New Hope, MN- based Safco Products, Inc., a leading provider of organization and comfort enhancing products for the workplace, announced Tuesday that it has selected the Port of Virginia and Isle of Wight County for its new east coast import facility. The 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art distribution center will be located near the east coast import facilities of Target Corporation and Cost Plus World Market, approximately 35 miles from the Port of Virginia. The project will kick off Phase II of the Shirley T. Holland Commerce Park in Isle of Wight County. Jeb Atkinson with Brentwood, TN- based ProVenture conducted the site selection and advised Safco on the project along with Tom Hauschild of Minneapolis, MN based- The TEGRA Group.
The site selection process began as a multi-port, multi-state search and evaluated options from Wilmington, NC to Hagerstown, MD before deciding on the Hampton Roads area.
“After refining an existing network study, it was clear that from an inbound and outbound transportation perspective, the Hampton Roads area was the single best location for servicing Safco’s east coast customer base”, says Atkinson, whose company also assisted with the transportation analysis.
Minneapolis-based Ryan Companies US was selected as the developer and design-build contractor for the facility, which is slated to be operational by December 2008. The new distribution center will service Safco customers along the eastern seaboard, from eastern Canada to Florida.
