Intertek Approved by USGBC as Certification Body for LEED Green Building Rating System
Third-party program allows for faster recognition of environmentally-friendly construction projects.
Boxborough, MA, August 01, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a leading global provider of quality and safety solutions, has been approved by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a qualified certification body for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
Intertek is one of a select few registrars that have been approved to review LEED project submissions as part of a two-year pilot program. By leveraging Intertek’s substantial technical expertise, USGBC can continue to effectively meet the increased demand for LEED certification, while developing a third-party certification scheme.
The LEED rating system is designed to support and certify "green" building design, construction, and operations. It promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
Intertek auditors completed extensive training in which they studied the requirements for the various LEED rating systems, such as New Construction, Existing Buildings, and Commercial Interiors.
