Stay Home, Play a Game and Have Fun During Million Minute Family Challenge
Beloit, WI, August 06, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Organizers of this year’s Million Minute Family Challenge™ are expecting game playing to be at an all-time high, considering that gas prices have set records and the costs of other entertainment options are increasing.
“The idea of staying home and having a game night is appealing, given the current economy,” said Beth Muehlenkamp, senior promotions coordinator at Patch Products, which sponsors the challenge every year. “Board games are a wonderful way for family and friends to spend time together, and they are a great value because you can play them over and over again. A gallon of gas will last 20 miles, but a board game will last 20 years.”
The Million Minute Family Challenge, which is in its eighth year, encourages interaction and communication among family and friends by setting a national goal of playing games for a total of 1 million minutes from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31. The goal might seem high, but if 1,000 families or groups in each of the 50 states play a board game for 20 minutes, that’s 1,000,000 minutes. A total of 313 groups logged 1,084,766 minutes last year.
“We were in a game-playing competition with our neighbors, and this gave us a way to keep track,” said Sharon Niedzielski of Maple Grove, Minn., who participated in the 2007 challenge. Sharon and her family logged 860 minutes.
In addition to Patch Products®, this year’s supporters who are helping to bring awareness to the Million Minute Family Challenge are Red Robin® Gourmet Burgers, KOA®, Great Wolf Lodge® resort locations in the U.S., Blue Harbor Resort™ and Generations United®.
