Ian Woosnam Finishes 23rd in US Senior Open
At the US Senior Open at Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Ian Woosnam tied 23rd place on seven over par alongside Tom Watson. Argentinean Romero Eduardo lifted the trophy on 6 under 274 – a four shot lead over runner up Fred Funk who shot a 2 under 278. Greg Norman finished on level par for the tournament, leaving him in fourth place.
Birmingham, United Kingdom, August 08, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Woosnam shot a 4 over par round on his first day, leaving him 8 shots off the pace set by Bernhard Langer. However, Day 2 saw Woosie claw back several shots to post an impressive score of 68 in tricky conditions; only four other players shot an below par round.
Despite shooting 5 birdies on the front nine, Woosnam only managed a 1-over 71 for this third round, increasing the gap between himself and the new pacesetter Eduardo Romero, who was 5 under for the day.
The Order of Merit leader finished the tournament with a round of 74, leaving him in 23rd position, tied with 8 time Major Championship winner Tom Watson.
Romero went on to clinch victory shooting a final round 73, staving off competition from Fred Funk, Mark McNulty and Greg Norman.
