Codimensional Software Announces Schoolweb
Codimensional Software announces the release of Schoolweb, a complete web 2.0 portal system for schools, designed to facilitate communication between students, parents, and faculty.
Santa Cruz, CA, August 08, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Codimensional Software today announced the immediate availability of Schoolweb, a complete web portal for schools. Using the latest web technologies, including AJAX and Ruby on Rails, Schoolweb meets all the communication needs of secondary education.
Schoolweb is centered around a user’s personal homepage, which is made up of widgets—miniature web pages—that interest the user. Widgets can be created for clubs, classes, committees, grades, sports teams, and more. In addition to free-form widgets, which allow for any kind of content—and can be edited without the need for HTML—there is also a template for sports teams to post practices, announcements, upcoming games and recent scores, as well as a template for announcements, in which a daily bulletin can be posted. Files, such as handouts, presentations, and notes, can be attached to any widget.
Additional widgets include homework, where teachers can post homework for all their classes, grades, which are pulled down from a Student Information System (SIS), and a school-wide sports widget which lists upcoming games and recent scores for all sports teams.
The calendar and upcoming events widgets, customized to the interests, grade level and courses of the user, provide a personalized look at school events. Users can even subscribe to their calendar in external applications such as Outlook, Google Calendar or iCal and get reminders of events by email, IM or SMS.
"Schoolweb is an impressive communication portal utilized by the entire school. Homework, grades, class materials, school calendars and forms, lunch menu, sports updates, daily bulletins, and so much more... it is amazing how much information is available to the whole school community," says Erik Perkins, IT Director at a school that has been using the software for the past year.
For teachers and administrators, there is rich support for surveys and mailing lists. A comprehensive built-in survey system allows widget editors to poll their users with multiple choice, short answer, free response, and rating questions. Authorized users can build dynamic mailing lists by chaining together queries of users in a powerful and easy-to-use interface, so mailing the parents of upperclassmen art students, for example, is a breeze. And once a list is created, it automatically updates, so there’s no need for manual list maintenance.
Schoolweb is available from virtually every “connected” device—including computers, laptops, PDAs, and even cell phones. For users with internet on their phone, Schoolweb provides mobile access to nearly all its widgets. In addition, quick access to homework, grades, and events is just a text message (SMS) away.
