Microangelo, the “Grand-Daddy” of icon editors, was created by Impact Software in 1995. The name Microangelo was suggested by PixelPlace Co. a partner and true friend of Impact Software. The name set the tone for this successful shareware program, as unique a name Microangelo; its unique capabilities have stood the test of time.
The first graphics editor of its kind in the shareware industry, Microangelo would begin to set the standard for icon editing tools, a statement which still holds true today. Microangelo became the first icon editing tool to surpass 1,000,000 downloads on CNET. In 2000 Microangelo became the first program to allow Windows users to create animated desktop icons. With the release of Windows XP, Microangelo became the first icon editing tool to allow users to create and edit alpha blended icons.
Today Microangelo is not only the leader in icon editing software for Windows, but has now won the coveted Shareware Industry’s “Best Graphics Program or Utility” three years in a row. In the fifteen years of existence of the Shareware Industry Awards, no other program can make that claim. In addition, Microangelo also won the 2002 “People’s Choice Award” presented by Simtel Networks.
In 2003 Impact Software changed its name to Eclipsit, Inc., but our commitment to improving Microangelo has not changed. That same year we released a new component, Microangelo Creation, which promptly captured the 2004 Shareware Industry Award for Best Desktop Enhancement. Microangelo Creation allows the user a a rich toolset to create and editing icons, and the ability to interact with other graphics software, such as PhotoShop and Macromedia.
